About the event
Earlier this year, NASA’s Mars Perseverance Rover made an incredible landing in Mars’ Jezero Crater. This difficult landing was made possible by Terrain Relative Navigation, an AI technology where the rover was able to use onboard cameras and image recognition to recognize its position and guide landing (the moon lander had Neil Armstrong looking out a window, Perseverance had AI!). In this webinar, we show students how this type of AI works, and why it is needed. Students will build their own version of this technology using real images taken by Perseverance and create an AI that can guide a rover to a safe landing. We will also show how this type of technology can be used on earth with drone imagery.
You will learn
Real-world use of AI
Build your own AI using real images from Mars
A project you can extend to a variety of drone-based earth usages.
