Why Should High School Students Participate in AI Competitions?

We all know that AI's is having a transformative impact on every industry in the world. Learning AI is no longer for Ph.Ds or even for college students. Participating in competitions using AI is a great way to showcase your AI knowledge and skills, network with peers and mentors, and have fun!

What Competitions Can Students Showcase AI?

While some competitions are specially targeted towards AI. the interdisciplinary nature of AI means that you can showcase AI skills in a variety of competitive events.

  • Science Fairs: While science fairs are not AI competitions, many winning science fair entries these days leverage AI in some form. Look for your district's regional science fair, which then sends selected students to state and national fairs.

  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions: Prestigious competitions like the Conrad Challenge, the Diamond Challenge, and Blue Ocean Challenge provide students with an opportunity to show how they have used AI to create innovative products and businesses.

  • Social Good Competitions: Social Good competitions, like Technovation Girls, the Congressional App Challenge, or the Earth Prize, enable students to showcase their skills in using AI to solve global problems in a wide range of areas from health to environment.

  • Hackathons: Hackathons such as the TED AI Hackathon, the Cloudera Machine Learning Hackathon, or Kaggle competitions enable students to showcase their AI and technology skills in building apps and software solutions using AI.

Each type of competition helps build and showcase valuable AI related skills. Wins in science fairs demonstrate that you can combine AI and Science to research, experiment with, and solve important problems. Wins in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Social Good competitions demonstrate your ability to use AI for impactful products. Hackathons are a great way to showcase your AI implementation skills.

How to Get Started

Here are some quick ways to get started.
